Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain, and how I work. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.
Do I need to know exactly what to talk about?
No — many people begin therapy feeling unsure about where to start. We can explore things together at your pace, and I will help guide the conversation in a way that feels supportive and manageable.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential and your privacy is respected at all times. There are rare legal or ethical limits to confidentiality, which I will explain clearly at the beginning of our work together.
How long are sessions and how often do they take place?
Sessions usually last 50 minutes and are typically held weekly. Frequency can be discussed and adjusted depending on your needs and circumstances.
How does consent work when working with children and young people?
When working with children and young people, consent and safeguarding are always carefully considered. Depending on age and circumstances, parental or carer consent may be required before therapy begins. Confidentiality is respected, and its boundaries are explained clearly to both the young person and parent or carer at the outset. Any concerns around safety or wellbeing are handled in line with ethical and safeguarding guidelines.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer online counselling sessions, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own space.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
It’s normal to feel unsure. I offer an initial 15-minute call so you can ask questions, learn more about how I work, and decide whether therapy feels like the right step for you.
How do I get started?
You can get started by booking an initial call or contacting me via the website. I’ll respond as soon as possible to arrange the next steps.
Do you work with children, young people, or couples?
Yes. I work with adults, children and young people, as well as couples. When working with younger clients, I ensure therapy is age-appropriate and collaborative, and I will always discuss consent and involvement with parents or carers where appropriate.
Will I be involved as a parent or carer?
Parental or carer involvement is discussed at the beginning of therapy and agreed collaboratively, always with the young person’s wellbeing as the priority. I aim to balance privacy with appropriate communication and support.
